Garrhs Brings Real-World HVAC Training to Ignacio High School

Introducing Students to HVAC Training and Career Pathways

Tony and Tyler from Garrhs spent the afternoon at Ignacio High School providing hands-on HVAC training to two shop classes. Our goal was to introduce students to the HVAC trade, explain what the work looks like, and show how skilled trades provide stable, purposeful, and well-paid career opportunities.

We began with a short discussion—about 20 minutes—on the role HVAC plays in keeping homes safe and comfortable. Students learned how technicians design systems, solve complex problems, and use specialized tools every day.

Hands-On HVAC Training: Building Real Ductwork

After the introduction, the students got to experience true HVAC training through a ductwork project using real HVAC tools and materials including snips, hole cutters, insulated flex duct, wall stack, and end caps,

Students built and connected their own HVAC duct sections, turning the classroom into a jobsite filled with teamwork, problem-solving, and a lot of laughter. This hands-on project helped students understand what HVAC technicians do daily and how rewarding this trade can be.

Why HVAC Training Matters for the Next Generation

We were inspired by how quickly the students embraced this HVAC training experience. Many had never used these tools before, yet they approached the challenge with curiosity and confidence.

Experiences like this highlight why HVAC trade education is so important. The industry needs skilled technicians, and early exposure helps students discover career paths they may not have considered otherwise.
